Systems / LAB 02

Following a record all the way through.

Looking beyond a successful file transfer to the completeness of the records that become searchable.

VALIDATION FOCUS
THE QUESTION

How do we establish that delivered call-record files have become the searchable data we expect?

01 / SETUP

What’s on the bench.

The CDR Search Tool receives CUCM records over SFTP and makes them searchable in a local application. The integrity work follows the boundaries between delivery, processing, storage and the results a person actually sees.

02 / OBSERVATIONS

What the work is showing.

A successful SFTP connection answers a transport question. It does not establish that every delivered file was processed or that every expected record is available in search.

Completeness matters when a report is being relied upon. An apparently empty result needs to be distinguishable from missing input, a processing failure or a search outside the retained period.

Retention and storage controls are part of this picture. Validation needs to account for what was deliberately retained or removed, rather than treating all absent data as the same kind of event.

03 / NEXT PASS

Where it goes from here.

  • Compare expected source files with processing outcomes using controlled test data.
  • Check what the application reports when a file fails processing.
  • Exercise retention boundaries and confirm the resulting search behaviour.
